Self-Guided Learning in Petaluma

What Is Self-Guided Learning?

Self-Guided Learning™ is an American Heart Association course format that lets learners complete two components independently:

  1. An adaptive online learning activity — completed at your own pace, on any compatible device
  2. A self-guided skills session — completed at a CPR Verification Station learning center using a Voice-Assisted Manikin (VAM)

Upon successful completion of both components, learners receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard for BLS, ACLS, or PALS.

This approach suits nurses, doctors, EMTs, paramedics, and medical students who need American Heart Association training for employment or licensure—but can’t always commit to a scheduled classroom session.

How the Online Learning Activity Works

The online portion uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology continuously assesses your knowledge and confidence, then adjusts your learning path in real time. Spend less time on content you already know. Focus more on the areas where you need improvement.

The result: a personalized, efficient learning experience that aligns with the latest American Heart Association guidelines. You can complete it from home, a break room at Petaluma Valley Hospital (400 N McDowell Blvd), or anywhere with a compatible device.

How the Self-Guided Skills Session Works

Once you finish the online learning activity, you schedule your self-guided skills session at the CPR Verification Station learning center at Safety Training Seminars’ Petaluma office. During this session, you perform required psychomotor skills independently using a Voice-Assisted Manikin.

The station provides real-time, objective performance feedback on:

  • Compression depth and rate
  • Chest recoil
  • Ventilation timing and volume

There is no instructor present. The CPR Verification Station learning center objectively measures your performance against AHA-defined criteria. You can repeat the skills activity as many times as needed to achieve a passing score.

Upon successful completion of both components, your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard is issued the same day.

Why Petaluma Healthcare Professionals Choose This Format

Petaluma’s medical community—including staff at Petaluma Valley Hospital and Kaiser Permanente Petaluma Medical Offices (3900 Lakeville Hwy)—depends on current, verified American Heart Association training. Coordinating group classroom sessions around shift schedules isn’t always realistic.

Self-Guided Learning courses solve that problem. Key benefits include:

  • Flexibility — complete the online activity anytime, anywhere
  • Speed — skills sessions take as little as 30 minutes
  • Objectivity — performance is measured against standardized AHA criteria, not an instructor’s judgment
  • Same-day eCard — your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard is issued immediately after your skills session

The Safety Training Seminars Petaluma office sits just a 2-minute drive from Petaluma Valley Hospital. Head down Professional Drive, turn right onto N McDowell Blvd, then left onto Transport Way—you’re there.
